Adventist Creation Doctrine: Reaffirmation of La Sierra University Board Action

During their meeting on February 11, 2010, the La Sierra University's Board of Trustees reaffirmed their previous action from November 2009 upholding the Adventist Church's doctrine of creation. Larry Becker, Executive Director, LSU University Relations, reported that the specific action which was moved and voted was as follows:

"To reaffirm the ‘Statement of Support for the Adventist View of Creation' [that was previously voted at the Board of Trustees Meeting on November 11, 2009]. In recognition of the serious and complex nature of this issue, the Board of trustees instructs the continued implementation of the statement.  We request the administration to provide progress reports identifying specific actions taken."

Re: Adventist Creation Doctrine: Reaffirmation of La Sierra ...

It is affirming to hear that La Sierra has reaffirmed their position on creation.  I assume they believe in the literal Genesis account with real days.  I would also assume that the actions taken would be clear and swift.  Those teachers who persist in teaching any form of evolution as the most plausible cause of how mankind came to be, should be summarily dismissed.  While I understand the need to teach our students various world views, this should always be done in the context of the authority of Scripture.

I believe this so strongly because of my own story on the topic.  While I was raised with an Adventist education, it wasn't until my sophomore year of college at West Virginia University (Parkersburg) that I had to come to grips with my belief in creation.  It almost destroyed my Christian experience.  You can hear that story in a sermon I've done on the topic.  It can be found at  http://lewisburgchurch.org/podcastlist.php. It's entitled "Amazing Grace in Time and Space" and it will be found near the bottom of the list.  It tells how I became convinced of the reality of creation and the theological implications of not standing firm on the topic.  I hope it's helpful in this necessary debate.

I've listened into your sermon. It is full of "the shape of worn shoes proves incontrovertibly that we're living inside a hollow earth"-logic. Are you smarter than all the guys who've been working for the GRI during the last 5 decades?

Re: Adventist Creation Doctrine: Reaffirmation of La Sierra ...

A friend brought to my attention that the SDA church forbids ordination of women, as affirmed in the 1990 (Indianapolis) and 1995 (Utrecht) General Conference sessions, according to this source: http://www.adventistsaffirm.org/proveallthings/01.04chapter01.html. In spite of this, many employees and local congregations, particularly in North America, continue to advocate for women's ordination. I am stunned!

According to Sean Pitman and Shane Hilde, any and all employees of the Church who lobby for change should immediately resign their positions. It is stealing from the Church for employees to oppose official church position while on the Church's dime.

Again, ALL CURRENT FEMALE SDA PASTORS IN NORTH AMERICA MUST RESIGN, AND ALL SDA EMPLOYEES WHO SPEAK IN FAVOR OF WOMEN'S ORDINATION MUST RESIGN. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE ATROCITY THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY.

Re: Adventist Creation Doctrine: Reaffirmation of La Sierra ...

What does women's ordination have to do with this topic?  Stay on point...

Re: Adventist Creation Doctrine: Reaffirmation of La Sierra ...

Sorry I didn't tie my remarks in with the story, but the issue of women's ordination was an obvious oversight on the part of the board. So three guys are raising questions about creation. How many in the Church--undoubtedly at LSU as well--are violating denominational policy by advocating and even hiring women as church pastors? This is highly immoral for those on the Church's dime. And no one cares?

I didn't realize how brutal conservative church leadership could be until I stumbled upon this very disturbing article about a young lady who once challenged your Church's authority:

http://stepstolife.org/php/view_article.php?article_id=218 (the first portion of the story)

Violating church policy? Questioning its doctrines? I find the Hilde-Pitman "church's-dime doctrine" (do it our way as we interpret scripture and truth, or resign...or get fired) downright frightening.

By might, by power, and not by my spirit...

PS - Has the SDA church always been demeaning toward woman?
